Lute, bear witness to my tears,
Lute, bear witness to my joy,
Of my untarnished youth:
Lute, future enjoyments,
(If heaven will suffer this)
Of my arid old age,
Lute, my silent Treves drum, [Treves: 12-year armistice]
Lute, my flute, my deaf muzzles
Lute, my party, my grape-bruising,
Lute, my genuinely witless play,
My amusing warbling

(Something Farcical, lines 6-16)

Concerts

Music was one of Huygens' greatest passions. He composed numerous musical pieces, a number of which have survived the centuries and which have recently been captured on CD.

In the winter Hofwijck organises monthly Sunday morning concerts in the Pronkzaal (the state room). This series of concerts fits into the fine tradition of music-making at Hofwijck once started by Huygens. The acoustics of the Pronkzaal are very well suited for chamber music. Famous musicians and young unknown talents alike are included in this concert series.

The concerts begin at 11.30 for the duration of approximately one hour. Hofwijck opens its doors at 11.00. Starting at that time it is possible to enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee in the museum's Old Dutch kitchen.

Tickets for the series or for a single concert can be booked at Huygens Museum Hofwijck. A booking is valid after wired payment. But please call us first: 0031 070 387 23 11. Tickets are € 12.00. € 10.00 for members of the Hofwijck Society.
